Welcome to the Every Action Counts website

Together we can secure the future

You are here: Home, This Months Pledge - Shop Ethically

Thank you to everyone who has joined our pledge campaign!

It's smart, savvy and makes a difference.  You choose a pledge and commit to do it.  Choose someone or a group of people to make the promise to. It's simple, habit-forming and powerful.  Ask a friend to join too.

Top pledges have won prizes!

Last month’s prize was a set of eco-travel books, including a green atlas.  It was won by Ben Jewell.

Ben Jewell wins the Travel Wisely prizes of a set of eco-travel books. He is working hard to introduce a car-share scheme not just with immediate colleagues but for the whole business park. RSPB staff are very active in tackling carbon usage, monitoring mileage on all forms of transport and aiming for a 3% cut in the resulting carbon every year, year on year.

Last pledges on your own

Every Action Counts has come to the end of the programme. So please carry on pledging and use this website for ideas, but we will not be collecting pledges this month.

There are lots of hints and tips on this site to help you with all the five themes of Every Action Counts, including shopping ethically. Here’s an inspirational example from Sheila Kenny, Facilities Manager at Community Hub in London, who buy their electricity from Green Energy UK. All the energy is from green sources - none from so called brown energy derived from Coal, Gas or Oil. Green Energy UK work with emerging technologies and small-scale generators.

Community Hub also use fair trade products for staff and meeting refreshments, such as tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits. As well as that, the catering company they use, have delivery vans running on LPG, use china plates and metal platters when delivering food and try to buy British produce wherever possible. Hoorah for shopping ethically!
